SCIM tax methodology and data
Every figure on the SCIM tax pages and in the calculator is an estimate based on public list prices. This page lists the sources, the formulas, every default, and how often the data is checked. Data as of October 2026.
Sources
- The SCIM Tax Index by Iden (scimtax.org), licensed CC BY 4.0. 286 vendors: whether each gates SCIM, the lowest plan that includes it, that plan's price, the typical team plan price and the vendor pricing page used as evidence. Upstream last updated 2026-06; last synced 2026-10-06.
- sso.tax, the SSO Wall of Shame (sso.tax), licensed under the Apache License 2.0. SSO pricing for 143 of our apps, used for the SSO overlap rule below. Each entry keeps its own date, and some are several years old.
- StitchOps verification layer. We correct and extend the data: 793 apps carry values StitchOps checked against the vendor's own pricing page, and 789 business systems from our app directory are included with SCIM status not yet verified. Categories, aliases and the default share of each department that gets an app are StitchOps assumptions, labeled as such in the data.
Every value in the dataset records where it came from and when, so a sync never replaces a value StitchOps verified more recently.
How the calculator works
SCIM is the standard your identity provider uses to create, change and remove accounts in an app automatically. All money is per year, in US dollars on annual billing, converted for display if you pick another currency.
- Seats. Everyone for a birthright app. For a departmental app, each department's headcount times the share of it that uses the app. Contractors get 40 percent of a full timer's departmental access by default, and every birthright app. Rounded up.
- Current cost. Seats times the base plan price times 12, or the contract value you enter.
- SCIM plan cost. The larger of your seats and the vendor's seat minimum, times the SCIM plan price times 12; at least the platform minimum; plus any flat fee.
- Gross SCIM tax. SCIM plan cost minus current cost, never below zero.
- Avoidable SCIM tax. The part you keep by automating on the plan you have. See the SSO overlap rule.
- Already on the SCIM plan. The saving is moving back to the plan that fits at renewal; the calculator shows the renewal month if you give one.
- Apps with no SCIM. No tax, because no plan offers SCIM. They count in coverage and in manual work.
The SSO overlap rule
When SSO is required on every app (the default), and a vendor puts SSO on the same plan as SCIM, you would buy that plan for SSO anyway. That app's SCIM tax is not avoidable and counts as zero. When SSO sits on a plan between the base plan and the SCIM plan, only the difference between those two plans is avoidable.
We place SSO from sso.tax. When the SSO price equals the SCIM plan price, SSO is on the SCIM plan. When it is lower, SSO sits on a plan in between. When SSO is quote only, priced per organization, or priced above the SCIM plan, we treat it as on the SCIM plan, so the upgrade is not avoidable. That keeps the estimate conservative. Today 91 of the 187 gated apps have SSO on the SCIM plan or above it.
For apps with no SSO data, the Low scenario assumes SSO sits on the SCIM plan. Expected and High assume it does not, and each of those lines says its SSO plan is not verified.
Estimates, ranges and confidence
128 gated apps sell their SCIM plan by quote only. For those, the calculator estimates the SCIM plan at the base price times a multiplier: 2 in Low, 3 in Expected and 5 in High. The range comes from the 37 gated apps that list both prices: the SCIM plan costs a median of 2.1 times the base plan, and 4.7 times at the upper quartile. Quote only plans are usually the top tier, so Expected sits above the median.
Apps whose SCIM availability is not published are treated as included in Low and as gated estimates in Expected and High. Apps with partial SCIM support are treated as gated unless you mark them covered. Apps with no published base price are left out of the money until you enter your contract price; they never get a guessed price.
Every line in the results carries a badge: listed price, estimate, quote only estimate, or your contract.
Soft savings
Hard savings are avoided upgrades. Soft savings are the manual work and idle seats for every app not automated today, and they are always shown separately and can be switched off.
- Joiners per year are people times (turnover plus growth); leavers are people times turnover; movers are people times the internal move rate.
- Manual work is 10 minutes per app for a joiner, 5 for a mover and 10 for a leaver, at $75 an hour, times the chance a given person has that app.
- Idle seats are leavers times 7 days until manual removal times the daily seat cost.
StitchOps cost
$2,500 per connected app per year, the same number as our pricing page, with no setup fees. Connected apps are the apps in scope that are not already automated through native SCIM on your current plan. An optional $5,000 pilot is credited in full to the first year. Above $100,000 a year, pricing is set with you, and the calculator shows gross savings instead of a net number. Net savings are hard savings plus soft savings (when included) minus StitchOps cost. Payback is StitchOps cost divided by monthly savings.

How often the data is checked
A scheduled job checks the SCIM Tax Index and sso.tax every month and opens a change for review; nothing is applied without a person looking at it. The SCIM Tax Index itself updates about once a year. Between updates, StitchOps rechecks vendors last verified more than 90 days ago, starting with the apps that appear most in calculator runs. Each app shows its own last verified date.

What these numbers are
Estimates only. List prices come from public vendor pricing pages as of the verified date shown for each app; your contract may differ, and you can enter it in the calculator. StitchOps works alongside your identity provider and does not replace it. Trademarks belong to their owners.
